So we are at at sauerkraut festival (I’ve got to write about it soon), and I ordered a dark beer. The lovely server who may have actually spoken less English than I speak French, was trying to tell me that they didn’t have dark beer, though I see it in all these glasses around me? Finally, she brings a glass with a small amount of dark liquid and says something about Picon avec bier. Ok, I say. I see that beer is added to this dark liquid and LOTS of people are drinking it. It must be good? It was just ok. Neither Barry nor I could figure out exactly what it was, so I looked it up…Ever hear of it?
Picon is a caramel-coloured, flavoured bitters drunk as an apéritif, which traditionally accompanies beer in the east and north of France. Wikipedia
